About this Sacred Place
Since its founding in 1984, Langton Green, an Anne Arundel County-based residential community that supports adults with intellectual disabilities, has sought to establish a place where people with varying needs and abilities could live, work and learn to make a positive impact on the surrounding community. They provide programs and services tailored to the individual that help each person develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible, thus ensuring that each person is able to realize their potential and live the life they choose. Langton Green is the only nonprofit of its kind in Maryland to be awarded the Quality Assurances Accreditation of Basic Assurances by the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL).
Langton Green Community Farm provides vocational training and work opportunities for interested individuals while serving as a source of food and income for the organization — and a resource for the wider community. The farm, located on a 13-acre property in Millersville, MD, produces a variety of crops such as potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupes, and strawberries. The farm’s operating and harvesting mechanisms are highly customized to the needs of its unique workforce. With some of the farm’s produce being used for meals at the Langton Green residences, residents who work on the farm are able to feel a sense of ownership and pride in their work.
