About this Sacred Place

Port Isobel Island is a 250-acre island east of Tangier Island, Virginia. In the late 1980s, much of the island was donated to CBF, and it is now one of CBF’s island education centers, where it hosts many environmental programs for school-age children.

Uniquely, a bench at Port Isobel was the inspiration for the hallmark curved back of the Nature Sacred bench. It has become home to two Nature Sacred benches. One is almost hidden amongst grasses that are taller than the bench itself, where it offers a beautiful view of the Chesapeake Bay. The other is at the end of the dock, where it acts as a portal to the education center.
