About this Sacred Place

The Hospitality Hub of Memphis works to help people exit homelessness. Their staff leverage decades of combined experience to identify challenges faced by their homeless clients and works with them to implement solutions that best suit their needs. The Hub and Nature Sacred collaborated to bring 3 Sacred Places to the Hub’s new building, ensuring space for peace, contemplation, and healing was incorporated into every facet of the campus design from the get-go.

Outside the new women’s shelter, which houses 32 rooms, is a dedicated outdoor space for residents, a Sacred Place designed with the principles of trauma-informed care. This space, visible from within the building through full-length windows as well as from balconies above, is comprised of multiple zones, each harboring various levels of activity. Shaded by the building, picnic tables and lounge chairs offer space for residents to spend time together. An open lawn space lets children play while their mothers relax in the sun. On the other side, set amidst plantings, a trellis covers an area with the Nature Sacred Bench and a water feature: a more private and reflective oasis. A walking loop and fence enclose the space.
