Bill Kuethe

Bill Kuethe is a long-time resident of Annapolis, more than forty years, and a semi-retired personal lines insurance agent in a family-owned agency. He has been very involved in non-profit volunteerism in Anne Arundel County for many years and has served on several boards of directors.

He has been a volunteer and board member at Opportunity Builders Inc., or OBI, for more than twenty years. He chaired the Capital Campaign as OBI built a 41,000 square foot building in Millersville. Since then, it has been his dream to incorporate the natural surroundings of the building and the 14-acre property into the overall identity and culture of OBI and its services. He is currently the president of the board of directors at OBI.

Although not inclined to talk about it much, Bill is truly grateful to be a survivor of Stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Along with outstanding medical treatment, Bill attributes his survival to his dedication to exercising outdoors in nature, daily as a part of his recovery. He still makes walking and swimming outdoors an integral part of his life and finds great peace and solace in sitting outside reading or just listening to the sounds of nature around him. With a smile, he’ll say he sits in the shade now.

Bill believes passionately in the work at OBI of providing vocational opportunities and meaningful day services for developmentally disabled adults and young people. He believes deeply in the nurturing, restorative, and healing power of nature. He is very enthusiastic about bringing a Nature Sacred place to the OBI grounds, hopeful that it will encourage the individuals, team members, families and visitors to sit on the bench awhile and find some quiet moments and tranquility in nature.
