Fillmore Forward is an organization that works to create a sense of place by improving quality of life, restoring economic vitality, and increasing inclusiveness, health, and wealth in Buffalo’s Broadway-Fillmore and Martin Luther King communities through grassroots organizing and public-private partnerships.
This site is sandwiched between an abandoned factory and a 6-lane expressway. It is 0.75 miles away from where the TOP Market shooting occurred in 2022. The space is already used by neighbors to walk their dogs, and for people to pick fresh produce from their orchard, and for children to play or read. They would like to add elements such as a wildflower garden, paths, benches, and gathering around the existing pavilion – with the aim of creating a destination in the community, a place of respite that is surrounded by plants and greenspace. The garden also abuts a City-owned open space corridor, and Fillmore Forward would like to produce a design that builds off and complements this existing open space infrastructure.
