Our Approach

Sowing the seeds for a deeper understanding of the power of nature as a healing space for individuals and communities

Mission & Vision

The Nature Sacred Principle
A belief in the fundamental truth that exposure to nearby nature environments offering sanctuary, solace, reflection, and mindful interaction delivers transformational benefits to users and surrounding communities.

 Mission
The mission of the TKF Foundation is to provide the opportunity for a deeper human experience by inspiring and supporting the creation of public green spaces that offer a temporary place of sanctuary, encourage reflection, provide solace, and engender peace and well-being.

Vision
We envision a time when every urban community in the U.S. will provide people with opportunities for intimate, intentional daily doses of nearby urban nature through the creation of a system of nature spaces. Until then, there’s the Nature Sacred Principle.

Open Spaces Sacred Spaces
These are the intimate and accessible spaces we promote. Each space contains four key design elements: the Portal, Path, Destination and Surround. You can learn more about the elements of our Open Spaces Sacred Places here.

Firesoul
An individual compelled to share their vision of the healing power of nature. More than a caretaker, a Firesoul is a person driven by a passion for creating, maintaining and sharing the healing gifts of Open Spaces Sacred Places with others.

    About Us

We are a private nonprofit that supports, informs, and inspires the creation of publicly accessible urban green spaces. We believe that every city resident needs nearby green space to provide opportunities for mindfulness, respite, and renewal. The Foundation has issued its final grants to build five Open Spaces Sacred Places and research the impacts on a variety of users with the hope that the powerful connection between nature, spirit and human wellbeing will be scientifically proven.
