About this Sacred Place
This Sacred Place, developed in partnership with The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, is located on the grounds of their Severn campus for staff and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It offers services like financial assistance, living options and workforce development, customized for each participant.
At the time the Sacred Place was created, the headquarters of the nonprofit was expanding from a tiny location to 19,000 square feet with three new buildings for administration, training and collaboration, and a Sacred Place was part of the package. Today, the Sacred Place at the Arc in Severn features two benches facing each other to overlook the space while engaging in conversation. For those who wish to take some time alone, a gazebo sits just beyond the garden.
Staff and program participants alike enjoy this space for lunch, to connect with a colleague or peer, and feel the sunshine and cool breeze in the midst of a busy day. The nearby pavilion that includes lighting and power is often used for parties and events, and the adjacent yard is a popular place for dogs and neighborhood kids to play.
Jonathon Rondeau, the chief executive officer and Firesoul, said. “This campus is more than just a group of buildings, it is a critical investment in the people and programs of The Arc Central Chesapeake Region.”
