About this Sacred Place

Backyard Basecamp and its BLISS Meadows in Baltimore exist to inspire and empower Black, Indigenous, and all people of color to explore and find nature in the places they live. BLISS Meadows is a 10-acre site at the intersection of environmental and food justice. A Sacred Place anchored by the site’s upper pond provides a healing and restorative location for community members, staff and volunteers for Backyard Basecamp, and all visitors to the site.

This pond is uniquely situated with a beautiful vista of the site and adjacent to a natural entryway to the woods. Building on Backyard Basecamp’s variety of programs — from nature and wellness walks to educational activities for schoolchildren — BLISS Meadows is a space for community dinners, environmental education, nature play spaces, and gardens.
