Duncan Neilson, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Neilson grew up in Portland, Oregon where he attended Reed College and received his undergraduate degree in Biology. He went on to study medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed both his medical degree and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following residency in 1974, Dr. Neilson returned to Portland and joined the Women’s Clinic, where he served as a private practicing obstetrician-gynecologist for the next 30 years. Dr. Neilson and Legacy have had a long history together. Over the years, his role with Legacy has included serving on Legacy’s Board of Directors, and as interim Medical Director for Legacy Women’s Services. Since joining Legacy Health in December 2004 as Clinical Vice President of Women’s Services, Dr. Neilson’s role has expanded to include that of Clinical Vice President of Surgical Services, Clinical Vice President of Legacy Medical Group -Surgical Specialties Division, and for a period of time as interim Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Neilson is an avid nature photographer and exhibits his work at galleries and special events, as well as in local businesses, including some of Legacy’s hospitals and clinics.
