About this Sacred Place
This pocket park welcomes folks of all ages, with an emphasis on children’s programming and education. Created in partnership with the City of Lineville and the Clay County school system, Lineville Pocket Park offers a serene and quiet space for residents and students alike.
Part of the Open Spaces Sacred Places partnership with CFNEA, the park is located in the center of town. The design is simple and comfortable: benches and picnic tables interspersed along a short, curving walkway. Short lampposts give an intimate feel, while an elegant water feature near the Nature Sacred bench is a refreshing vista. Folks may stop by for lunch or a quick break in the day.
Firesoul Jamie Watts, an educator in the Clay County school system started a class for students called V.O.I.C.E — Volunteers Operating In Community Engagement, to help local youth become more involved in the community. The class partnered with the City of Lineville, students themselves wrote the grant for the park that was later awarded by CFNEA.
“The students were so excited to see that the work they put in was successful”, Jamie remembers the dedication and passionate that students brought to the project. The school system and local educators continue to use the space for programs, gatherings and events to draw the community together.
Today, residents who frequent the park may stumble upon a story-time and other children’s programming, family picnics, friendly games of chess or frisbee and more.
