About this Sacred Place

Kernan Hospital’s Healing Garden was made possible by the local staff, community volunteers and associations. The garden incorporates benches, a water feature with fish, a sensory garden, a medicinal herb garden and secluded activity areas with specialized gardening tools, trellises, arbors and planters. It was designed and constructed so that it could be used as a rehabilitation tool for teaching patients to maneuver on different types of terrain. This therapeutic option prepares them for negotiating their way around their home and community environment when they leave the hospital.
