Storytime in the Garden

TKF is excited to offer our network of Firesouls (you) a new program for your Sacred Places. The premise is that a librarian storyteller will travel to your space and offer an engaging “storytime” session for young people. At the end of the event, each young attendee can take home a book of their own!

But that’s not all. Let us unpack this idea for you.

Do you know our Sacred Place in Baltimore—the Village Learning Place? They’re an independent library that offers educational programs, enrichment opportunities, and informational resources. It is their belief that “libraries are not only a repository for books, but also serve as community centers focused on the personal and professional growth of their patrons.” Their story is really very cool if you aren’t familiar with it.

So, why not take some of this library action on the road? The Village Learning place is partnering with us to bring Storytime in the Garden to our Sacred Places starting this spring, and will send one of their librarians to your space for a scheduled storytime session for young people.

But wait—there’s more!

You know those https://littlefreelibrary.org/Little Free Libraries you sometimes catch a glimpse of? They’re awesome. “Through Little Free Libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.”

As part of this offer, TKF will offer a Little Free Library to participating Sacred Places! Erin and Tom are so excited to have these made for you—and to have them serve as long-standing, meaningful opportunities for enrichment, education and community building.

TKF will have your Little Free Library built, delivered & installed at no charge to you.

Here’s what it looks like in our office! And here’s what’s very special about them—they’re made from remnant wood from TKF benches.

We will also fill it with a starter collection of books—so it’ll be all ready to go! Its mantra is “take a book, return a book”—building a kind of self-sustaining community exchange. Or, neighbors often drop off a book that they love, and take a new one. This news clip gives a little more color, if curious.

Small, open to all, and rooted in community. And what a perfect addition to our Sacred Places—giving people something to read and relax with, in nature. Yes!

"There needs to be more true outlets for secrets, desires and confessions. I am glad this place, this book, is one. It is a less indulgent form of therapy and tiny step towards releasing the thoughts, desires, which haunt you."
