Rachel Cole

Nature has a unique ability to transcend into multiple areas of life. As the Teen Department Manager at Gadsden Public Library, Rachel Cole has combined her love for education and nature’s interchangeability to create a safe and welcoming environment for Gadsden community teens.

Born and raised in Gadsden, Alabama, Cole has been the Firesoul for the Sensory Garden for over a year. With the help of the Northeast Community Foundation and Susie Parker Stringfellow’s legacy, Rachel has been able to curate a beautiful garden for individuals of all backgrounds to enjoy. Rachel has one child whom she absolutely adores, her son Charlie. Rachel and Charlie enjoy hiking and watching movies together. Rachel also enjoys coking, gardening, and reading!

Rachel is employed at the Gadsden Public Library as the Public Services Specialist. She also serves on various boards benefitting the children and the homeless population in the Gadsden area.

Rachel is proud to serve as a Firesoul for the sensory garden at the Gadsden Public Library. With all of life’s chaos, gardening is beneficial, and the space serves as a peaceful place for library patrons, friends and guests to take a break to relax and reflect.

“I love being able to provide a tranquil and peaceful garden area for others.”

One of Nature Sacred’s important pillars is accessibility—The Sensory Garden is no exception. The Sacred Place provides fresh herbs and leafy greens to the Beautiful Rainbow Cafe, which is housed in the library. It is equipped with a beautiful bench and a ‘Little Free Library’ for those who do not have a library card. Through her work, Rachel has brought her love for reading and gardening into the world.

The Sensory Garden is an interactive space which allows for healing and thought through the enjoyment of herbs, tending to plants, and simply strengthening oneself. By healing visitors from the inside out, real lasting change can take hold.
