Parity Homes is an equitable development company proudly headquartered in West Baltimore that acquires and rehabilitates abandoned properties by the block to create affordable home ownership opportunities. Parity Homes was started as a response to the gentrification and displacement the community was experiencing in their hometown.
Rather than renovating and selling individual homes, which is often a pathway to gentrification, Parity Homes first creates a social collective formed of community members to demonstrate interest in a block, then pre-selling the entire block and renovating the houses one by one, thus building wealth, financial preparedness, and community fabric. This Sacred Place would be in a lot where 4 properties were recently demolished, abutting a section of Baltimore’s Highway to Nowhere. Past door-knocking sessions have elicited community desires for benches, shade trees, outdoor movie nights, natural play elements, a pollinator garden, and potential traffic calming interventions.
