Crystal Sparrow


Crystal is Public Programs Coordinator at Penn Museum. Connecting to nature is important to Crystal personally, as well as in her professional life where she works to provide engaging programs and opportunities for the community to enjoy time with one another and with nature in the Sacred Places at the Penn Museum. She is particularly interested in the ways that nature spaces and outdoor programming facilitate healing in community through relationships and connection.

UPenn Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology Stoner Courtyard

In 1998, The Stoner Courtyard was part of the “Campaign for the East Wing”, the renovation plans for the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Before renovation, the courtyard was claimed by parked cars and transient traffic, not allowing much pedestrian traffic to enjoy the outdoor space adjacent to the museum. Nature Sacred played a role in transforming the space into a fully landscaped public place for walking, gathering, sitting and reflecting.

Upper Courtyard Warden’s Garden at The Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology

The Upper Courtyard is not only a space for reflection, but has also become a site for celebrations including weddings and other University events.
