Lenox Hill Hospital is a 450-bed, acute care facility on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. They have an international reputation for outstanding patient care, offering unparalleled expertise, innovative medical and surgical treatments, and access to the latest clinical trials. They have particular specialties in cardiovascular care, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, maternal/child health and internal medicine; and they are a leader in public health education and community outreach.
Set on the hospital’s fourth floor just off the elevators, and adjacent to the meditation room, the proposed Sacred Place would be on the building’s rooftop terrace. This section of the rooftop overlooks the canopy of the adjacent street trees and a residential terrace, also planted. The rooftop itself is overlooked by eight floors of patient rooms. Not only will it provide solace — for patients, families, and staff alike — and an outdoor extension of the indoor meditation room, it can also provide the added benefits of healing to the patient rooms that overlook it. Potential features may include plantings, nooks, meditative spaces, as well as possibly a mural on the brick. Lenox Hill’s rooftop can provide solace in the city for all who interact with it.
