CARE House of Oakland County is the sole children’s advocacy center in Oakland County, MI, providing first rate services to victims of child abuse and neglect. Founded in 1977 as the Child Abuse and Neglect Council of Oakland County, they currently offer an array of programs focused on the identification and treatment of child abuse victims, and on child abuse prevention. CARE House is a healing haven for children who have experienced abuse and neglect, and provides a safe, welcoming space for children to complete forensic interviews for child physical and sexual abuse and neglect cases, as well as free professional therapeutic services to treat the trauma they have experienced. They also have a multitude of community stewardship and family outreach programs to serve as preventative mechanisms.
In an existing garden created by a staff member during COVID, they hope to activate a Sacred Place where children have space to let out excess energy, where they can host outreach programs, where therapy sessions can occur, and where staff can seek respite.
